Caring For Your Oral Health This Summer
We are loving that the summer season is starting in a few short days! We cannot wait to relax and enjoy all that summer has to offer. We love the long, bright days and the warm weather. We want to encourage you to continue to care for your teeth and oral health this summer. Failure to do so can lead to serious complications with your oral health. Here are some helpful tips to follow:
Maintain Your Oral Hygiene Routine
Summer is a time for fun and long days and nights. No matter how long your days are or how tired you may be, it is extremely important to maintain your oral hygiene routine. Some of our patients may indulge during the summer, and failure to clean their teeth can lead to problems with decay and gum disease in the fall. You may be surprised at how quickly problems with your oral health can develop.
Pack Properly for Travel
Do you have a trip planned this summer? If so, we encourage you to pack any oral health and hygiene items you may need while traveling. Depending on your destination, it may be difficult to find a store that has the items you need. This is also especially important if you have clear aligners and will need to change your trays while you are away. Failure to change your trays while you are traveling can impact your treatment.
Drink More Water
When it’s hot outside, you may reach for sports drinks or soft drinks; however, these options are usually full of sugar and acid. You may be surprised to learn that some beverage choices have more sugar than even a candy bar. The same is true for special coffee drinks that you have made with syrups and various toppings. We recommend choosing water instead of another option. Water doesn’t have sugar and also helps to remove any lingering food and bacteria from the mouth.
If it has been some time since your last oral hygiene examination and cleaning, we encourage you to contact our office, which is located in Silverdale, WA, to schedule an appointment. The summer is the perfect time to schedule an appointment for yourself or a loved one. We hope you have a great start to summer, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
