It’s For Your Own Good…
We would love for our patients to have ideal health and never need a preventative, restorative, or cosmetic dental treatment. Unfortunately, that is not reality, and we see patients every day who are in need of treatments to restore the function of their teeth or improve the aesthetics of their smile. While the treatment itself is critical, it is even more important to follow the pre and post-treatment instructions that we provide. Not following our instructions can lead to severe damage to your oral health. Continue reading to learn more.
Avoid Treatment Complications
When you want something to work right the first time, it is important to follow the directions. We see this in all aspects of life, whether it is a recipe or assembly instructions. Following our instructions before and after treatment is no different. In fact, it can be even more important because failure to do so can lead to serious issues with your oral health.
Some patients may require antibiotics prior to a treatment or be required to stop certain medications before a treatment is performed. If you don’t follow these instructions, you may experience issues, such as abnormal bleeding or infection. When you don’t follow treatment instructions correctly, you can experience complications and require a repeat of the same treatment or an additional procedure you weren’t planning to get. This can lead to unnecessary discomfort as well as added expense.
Be Careful When Numb
If you have received a numbing agent during treatment, be sure to allow the effects to wear off before you eat or drink after treatment. You may accidentally bite yourself and cause damage to your tongue, cheeks, or lips if you’re not careful.
