Tips To Keep Teeth Healthy This Holiday Season
We cannot believe that we have already reached the middle of December, and we will be celebrating the new year in a couple of weeks! We know that many of our patients are busy during the holidays, spending time with family and friends, attending holiday parties, and even traveling to visit relatives. We wanted to share some helpful tips to ensure that you do not have any complications with your oral health in the new year.
Stick to Your Oral Hygiene Routine
No matter how busy you may be during the holidays, it’s important to keep up with your oral hygiene routine. This includes brushing for two minutes at least twice a day in addition to using dental floss daily. Failure to keep your teeth clean can lead to decay and the need for unwanted dental treatments.
Limit Sugary Foods
There is no end to the delicious food and treats available during this time of year. We encourage our patients to enjoy sweets in moderation. This also includes alcoholic beverages, which are high in sugar. Overindulging in sugar will lead to decay and the need for dental treatments when the new year rolls around. While at holiday events, be sure to choose some more nutritious foods as well.
Drink Plenty of Water
When eating holiday meals and treats, be sure that you are drinking plenty of water. Water helps rinse away any lingering food and bacteria after eating. Water also keeps your mouth and body hydrated when you’re drinking holiday cocktails, which tend to be dehydrating.
The best way to ensure your teeth are healthy is to visit our office as recommended for a hygiene examination and cleaning. It is not too late to schedule an appointment before the end of the year to use your remaining insurance benefits.
If you are in Silverdale, WA or the surrounding area and have any further questions about your oral health or need to schedule an appointment, please call our office. We would love to help you keep your teeth healthy during this holiday season.
