Manage Your Sweet Tooth This Halloween
Do you know how much money is spent on Halloween candy in America each year? The figure might surprise you. Americans purchase over $2 billion worth of candy each Halloween season. We think it’s safe to say that many of us love our sweets and candy, especially during this time of year. As we have mentioned before, eating an overabundance of sugar is harmful to your teeth and your wallet. We want to share some ideas for alternatives you can introduce to your family instead of eating all of the Halloween candy and treats:
Candy Bank
This unique idea is a way to encourage your family to enjoy their Halloween treats in moderation. All of the Halloween candy is collected, and similar to a traditional bank, the child would need to ask permission to make a withdrawal from their candy pile. The adult is able to dictate how many pieces of candy are allowed at a time.
Candy Trade-In
If you are adamant about your loved ones not eating candy this Halloween, you can propose a candy trade-in. This is where your family would trade in their candy for an alternative surprise. It could be anything from a toy to a family outing that everyone could enjoy.
Donate to Troops or a Charity Organization
Many organizations collect Halloween candy to distribute to local charities or troops around the world. This would be a great option if you choose the candy trade-in. It is also a great way to donate the leftover candy you may have remaining from trick-or-treaters.
Don’t Forget to Schedule a Visit to Our Office
If you have not visited the dentist in the past six months, we recommend scheduling an appointment for after Halloween. We will be able to inspect for damage caused by the added sweet treats over the past few weeks.
If you are interested in a healthier Halloween, we would love for you to give one of these ideas a try. As always, if you need dental care or it’s time to schedule a routine hygiene examination, be sure to call our office located in Silverdale, WA. We hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!
